Carleton College's campus is home to the Cowling Arboretum, also known as "The Arb." This 880-acre natural reserve features a variety of ecosystems including prairies, forests, and wetlands. It's a popular spot for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and bird-watching, as well as a living laboratory for environmental studies. The Arb also plays host to the annual tradition of the "Midnight Run," where students take a break from studying on the last day of classes to run a mile loop through the Arb at midnight.
