About IU Bloomington

Sometimes called the best kept secret in the Midwest, Indiana University Bloomington is known for academic excellence, a spirited student body, and its stunning campus set in a charming college town. Students can choose from a wide range of well-regarded degree programs, but IU’s The Kelley School of Business and the Jacobs School of Music are two of the best programs in their respective fields.

The iconic Sample Gates mark the entrance to IU Bloomington’s gorgeous 1,860-acre campus, which is full of green spaces and shady spots to relax or study. IU Bloomington competes at the highest level of collegiate sports, and is a member of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, which has a long history of fierce competition with schools like Northwestern, University of Michigan and Penn State. 

Did You Know? 

Indiana University Bloomington is home to the famous "Little 500" bicycle race, which has gained widespread recognition and even inspired the 1979 film "Breaking Away." The race, held annually,  is modeled after the Indy 500, and features teams of students competing in a 50-mile relay race on a cinder track. It has become a beloved tradition at IU Bloomington, attracting participants and spectators from across the campus and beyond for a thrilling and unforgettable experience that showcases the IU spirit.
