Most Popular Schools to Apply Early To 2022
Many schools offer early admissions through early decision, early action, or both. Here is a list of the most popular schools to apply early to. The list is in order based on how many early applications the school received during the most recent application period in fall of 2021 and spring of 2022.

1. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill had a total of 31,899 early action applicants, which comprised the total of early applications the university received.
2. University of Virginia
University of Virginia received 31,235 early applications including 29,038 early action applications and 2,197 early decision applications.
3. University of Maryland, College Park
University of Maryland, College Park had a total 31,043 early action applicants which was also the total amount of early applications the university received.
4. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University received 29,897 early applications including 2,346 early decision and 27,551 early action applications.
5. The University of Tampa
The University of Tampa had a total of 25,822 early applications which was comprised entirely of early action applications.
6. Colorado State University
Colorado State University received 23,317 early action applications.
7. North Carolina State University
North Carolina State University received a total of 22,868 early applications from students applying early action in the most recent year.
8. University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of Massachusetts Amherst received a total of 21,168 early applications from students applying early action.
9. University of Miami
University of Miami had a total of 24,493 early applicants which was comprised of 22,982 early action and 1,511 early decision applications.
10. Fordham University
In the most recent application period, Fordham University received a total 19,816 applications. This consisted of 19,521 early action applications and 295 early decision applications.
11. The University of Tennessee
The University of Tennessee received 18,553 early action applications, which was also the total amount of early applications the university received.
12. University of Vermont
University of Vermont received 18,106 early applications in the most recent application period, which consisted entirely of early action applications.
13. Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University received 16,620 early applications, which consisted entirely of early action applications.
14. University of Rhode Island
University of Rhode Island received 15,134 early admission applications, which was comprised entirely of early action applications.
15. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Massachusetts Institute of Technology received 15,036 early admission applications, all of which were for early action, as MIT only offers EA for early applicants.
16. University of Arkansas
For the most recent application period, University of Arkansas had 15,007 early applications, all of which were for early action.
17. Binghamton University, State University of New York
Binghamton University, State University of New York received 14,873 early applications, all of which were from early action applicants.
18. Hofstra University
Hofstra University received 13,771 early action applications. This comprised the entirety of the university’s early applications as the school offers only EA for early applicants.
19. Elon University
Elon University received 12,415 early applications. This included 12,168 early action applications and 247 early decision applications.
20. College of Charleston
College of Charleston had 12,194 early applications last year. This included 11,954 early action applications and 240 early decision applications.
21. The University of Kansas
The University of Kansas received 12,136 early applications, which consisted entirely of early action applications.
22. George Mason University
George Mason University received 11,983 early applications, which was comprised entirely of early action applications.
23. Texas Christian University
Texas Christian University received a total of 11,692 early applications which included 10,919 early action applications and 773 early decision applications.
24. University of New Hampshire
University of New Hampshire received 11,591 early applications. This was comprised entirely of early action applications.
25. Butler University
Butler University received 10,433 early applications, which consisted entirely of early action applications.
26. University at Buffalo, the State University of New York
University at Buffalo, the State University of New York received 9,311 early action applications for the 2021-2022 application period. The university only accepts early action applications for early applicants, so that 9,311 is also the total amount of early applications the university received.
27. Saint John's University
St. John's University received 9,136 early applications which was comprised of 9,093 early action applications and 43 early decision applications.
