Atlantic Coast Conference Schools

The Atlantic Coast Conference is a college level athletic conference based on the eastern coast of the US. The ACC was established in 1953 and five of the original seven schools are still members. The ACC currently has 15 members. The ACC is a Power 5 conference, meaning that football team members are part of the highest level of Division 1 football. Sports supported by the ACC include field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, baseball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, and softball.

University of Virginia

University of Virginia joined the ACC in December of 1953, seven months after the conference was founded earlier that May. University of Virginia holds 29 total NCAA championship titles and leads the ACC in men’s championship wins with 21 titles. Current championship titles held by Virginia include men’s tennis (spring 2021), women’s swimming & diving (winter 2020-21), and rowing (spring 2021).

  • Boston College

    Boston college has been a member of the ACC since 2005. BC has a total of six NCAA team championships, with the most successful sport being men’s ice hockey. In the 2020-2021 season, BC placed 11th in the Women’s Capital One Cup, which is an award given to the best Division 1 athletic programs in the country.

    Clemson University joined the ACC in 1953 as a founding member. Clemson has won a total of four NCAA team championships with their most successful sport being soccer. Current championship wins held by Clemson include men’s football (fall 2020), men’s soccer (fall 2020), and golf (spring 2021).

    Duke university joined the ACC in 1953 as an original founding member. Since then the school has won 17 total NCAA team championships. Current championship titles held by Duke include men’s fencing (winter 2020-21), men’s baseball (spring 2021), lacrosse (spring 2021), women’s fencing (winter 2020-21), softball (spring 2021), women’s gold (spring 2021), and women’s outdoor track & field (spring 2021).

    University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an original member of the ACC, having joined in 1953. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill holds the most NCAA team championship wins out of all the ACC schools with 46 total titles. The most successful sport at North Carolina is women’s soccer. Current championship titles held by North Carolina are for women’s field hockey (fall 2020), women’s lacrosse (spring 2021), women’s tennis (spring 2021), and men’s lacrosse (spring 2021).
